House Hunting

"He who will not reason is a bigot; he who cannot is a fool; and he who dares not is a slave."
(Sir William Drummond)

Seen two places today, the ones either side of Tooting Bec common and my first impressions of both were pretty much spot on. The first, in Balham was a lovely little place with three bedrooms - the room is pretty small but it has a great living room with two enormous windows and a big old wide screen tv and a big kitchen dining room and a lovely garden which is shared by the flat downstairs. The people seemed lovely - both in their thirties I think so a bit older and both not Brits; the guy looked to be South American and the girl European but seemed totally sweet and chatty. The place was really clean though they kept apologising for the mess and it was warm and cosy. We had a random chat about celebrities which was funny and I liked them a lot.

The second place I sort of had down as a bit of a no no anyway as it's a bit far from transport links for a girl that sometimes finishes work at 11pm. But I went to get a bit of perspective across the frozen common to the huge old house to look at what was called (unironically) the penthouse flat. It was the penthouse in that it was at the top but that was pretty much it. The girl due to view before me was late so she ended up viewing with me. The landlord showed us round and the three other housemates stayed in their rooms (friendly!) The house backed onto a rail line and the room was of a good size but I'd be swapping one unsociable house for another. So it was definitely a no no.

I came home from these two viewings on the phone to my mum who encouraged me that moving was the right thing to do, especially as when I got home I explained the state of the kitchen to her - bin and recycling bin overflowing, one side covered in washing up, all sides covered in crumbs and stains, the oven covered in grease and ming and grease all over the floor where someone must have dropped something and just left it there. Yummy. My dad helped me compose some questions that I forgot to ask at the first house.

I am beginning to look forward to moving.

Oh Newbie, GET OUT! I think that you will be happier if you move. I would not be able to deal with that sort of housemate either. I think that a change of atmosphere would be exciting.-V
